Requirements for ALL applicants:
- Must be a UNT student (full-time or part-time)
- Must be able to attend our weekly meetings
- Fall 2015: Wednesday, 7-9pm, Willis 340
- Spring 2016: Tuesday, 7-9pm, Willis 340
- Note: Positions are not paid. This is an extra-curricular.
- No previous experience is required. We accept all majors and years.
Responsibilities: Contribute at least one article per week for publication, actively participate in the pitching process, attend bi-semesterly training workshops and editor feedback conferences. Writers must have a strong passion for anything pop culture and entertainment related, as well as an interest in social media.
Requirements: Submit 2-3 writing samples, a resume and a brief cover letter in the body of your email detailing why you want to join RisqMag. No previous journalism experience required, but must have strong writing and grammar skills. (Note: You may submit works of fiction, but please be aware we are not a literary magazine and do not publish creative writing on the website.)
Responsibilities: Contribute at least one photo for an article per week for publication, attend interviews and events on a case-by-case basis per the subject of your assigned article.
Requirements: Submit 2-3 photography samples or a link to an online portfolio, a resume and a cover letter in the body of your email detailing why you want to join Risq. Must own your own camera. Photography background is not required, but strongly recommended.
Graphic Design Director
Responsibilities: Serve as the go-to designer for the RisqMag brand and website. You do NOT need to attend meetings on a regular basis, but must be readily available to meet with the editor to discuss any projects
Requirements: Submit 2-3 samples of your best work, a resume and a cover letter in the body of your email detailing why you want to join Risq. Brochures, website templates, logos, infographics, etc. are all acceptable samples. Must have a working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign or Illustrator in order to be considered. WordPress experience is not required, but a huge bonus.
Responsibilities: Approach local businesses or campus organizations to create advertisements on the website. Work with the Account Manager to create size/price ratios to present interested parties. Work with the Graphic Design Director to create custom ads for businesses.
Requirements: Attach a resume and submit a cover letter in the body of your email detailing why you want to join Risq. In your email, submit a mock elevator pitch to a potential business owner and a summary paragraph outlining your role in an ad-related project. Advertising majors are not required, but strongly preferred. Must feel comfortable personally approaching business owners.
Responsibilities: Budget finances on behalf of the magazine. This includes working with the advertising director to quote ad prices for the website, handling the magazine bank account and calculating expenses for the magazine (staff merchandise, website add-ons, travel expenses, etc.).
Requirements: Attach a resume and submit a cover letter in the body of your email detailing why you want to join Risq. Preliminary interview is required once your resume has been accepted. Must feel comfortable handling finances, including budgeting and handling the magazine bank account through Wells Fargo. Business majors are strongly preferred, but not required.
